Deposit insurance (DICGC)
Insurance on bank deposits of up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, if the bank fails.
The Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation, part of RBI, covers savings accounts, FDs, RDs and current accounts at banks, including small finance and cooperative banks, up to ₹5 lakh in total per person per bank, interest included.
Spreading large deposits across banks keeps each within the limit. Post Office schemes are backed by the government directly.
