Employees' Provident Fund
A retirement savings account for salaried employees, funded by 12% of basic pay from you and your employer.
You contribute 12% of basic pay plus DA; your employer matches it, but 8.33% of their share (on pay up to ₹15,000 a month) goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme instead. EPFO sets the interest rate each year.
Your contribution counts for 80C in the old regime. The interest is tax-free, except on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year.
