Old vs new regime for FY 2026-27

New regime (the default): no tax up to ₹4 lakh, then 5% to 30% in ₹4 lakh steps above it, a ₹75,000 standard deduction for salaried people, and a rebate that makes income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free (₹12.75 lakh for salaried). Most deductions aren't allowed.

Old regime: higher rates (5%, 20%, 30%) but you can claim HRA, 80C, 80D, home-loan interest and more, with a ₹50,000 standard deduction. It usually wins only with large deductions.

Budget 2026 kept the same slabs as FY 2025-26. This calculator covers salary and other income at slab rates with surcharge and 4% cess; it doesn't handle capital gains or business losses.
