Why inflation matters
Prices rise every year, so the same money buys less over time. At 6% inflation, prices roughly double every 12 years. Future cost is today's cost × (1 + inflation)years.
When planning a goal — a child's education, a house, retirement — plan for the inflated amount, and compare investment returns after inflation: a 7% FD in a 6% inflation year grows your buying power by only about 1%.
