How Sukanya Samriddhi works
A Sukanya Samriddhi account can be opened for a girl under 10. You deposit ₹250 to ₹1.5 lakh a year for 15 years, and the account matures 21 years after opening. Interest is worked out monthly on the lowest balance after the 5th and credited every 31 March — so deposit by 5 April for the full year's interest.
The rate is set by the government every quarter. The scheme is EEE: deposits qualify for 80C (old regime) and the interest and maturity are tax-free. Up to 50% can be withdrawn for her education once she turns 18.
Results are estimates for illustration only, not financial advice. Banks and schemes may round, apply TDS or use slightly different day counts — confirm figures with your bank or employer.
