How Kisan Vikas Patra works
Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) is a post office certificate that doubles your money. The government sets the rate and, with it, the term: at 7.5% a year it doubles in 115 months (9 years 7 months). The term in force on the day you invest applies until maturity. The minimum is ₹1,000 and there is no upper limit.
There is no tax deduction for the investment, and the interest is taxable (you can declare it each year or at maturity). You can cash it in after 2 years 6 months, for less than the full amount. Investments over ₹50,000 need a PAN.
For a 5-year option with an 80C deduction, see the NSC calculator.
Results are estimates for illustration only, not financial advice. Banks and schemes may round, apply TDS or use slightly different day counts — confirm figures with your bank or employer. Written by the Welthr team; last reviewed on .
